3rd Gen by Jellypixels is a massive burst of nostalgia, using a pulled-apart diagram of a Nintendo Gameboy Advance to create a vast, multi-layered ecosystem full of Pokemon. The creatures aren’t placed randomly, they’re put in situations that suit their skills and styles. So the lowest segment of the machine becomes a pond for the water-dwellers, while flying monsters dominate the top tiers (even swirling between segments). It’s a slick concept and executed pretty well, although there’s so much going on in some places that I have trouble discerning all the details. But that shouldn’t deter the design’s target audience, whose youthful enthusiasm is well-captured by the smorgasbord of characters and situations.
