Pampling’s Yin Yang Cat

Yin Yang Cat by Vo Maria uses two cuddling cats to form a basic yin yang shape. It’s a solid concept, backed up well by the casual, almost doodled style of the illustration. While well-rendered, the looseness of the strokes and wobbly edges of the shapes help this design to feel like a piece expertly but quickly dashed off by a skilled artist. It’s also a style that helps the cats to feel alive and in motion, like the perfect shape of their snuggle is a moment in time, one that might be quickly lost as they adjust their position. The design also benefits from not being too insistent on being true to the yin yang shape- using the curve of the tail to stand in for the shape’s dot helps the concept to feel much more natural than a literal spot would have.
