Threadless: Flower Bath and more new this week

Flower Bath by unlisted artist is my favorite Threadless print this week. All the rounded shapes and soft colors create a scene that feels pillowy and cozy, like everything is soft and spongey. Even the subtle shadows are created with dotted texture, giving the surfaces a fuzzy look. And for their part, the three human figures strike dreamy, relaxed poses as they enjoy the lazy day. My only criticism is that I wish the bottom of the art didn’t cut off so abruptly- continuing some of the plant forms to different heights would have made the design look more natural and sophisticated on the shirt.

Here With You by artofvelazquez makes a dramatic first impression with its strong contrast. The bright white of the towering clouds, prone body, and most importantly the gleam of the scythe grab the eye and immediately start spinning a narrative. The scythe’s position surrounds it with pure black, a very effective way to make it seem even more sharp and threatening. But the poses of the prone woman and protective reaper soften the meaning of the scythe, positioned like a romantic pair in a renaissance painting and with the reaper’s cape flowing behind him in heroic fashion. It all ends up feeling like a love story rather than one of horror. And the unique pencilled look of the art makes it stand out in a big way from the usual t-shirt fare.

Inside Joke by Shadyjibes is a solid gag, and in addition to the humor around the word “inside” there’s some appeal in the idea of a joke that no one shares, a joke that is purely personal and internal. I like that there’s some variation in how the organs react, with some playfully communicating with each other while the heart feigns light embarrassment. My only question is, wouldn’t the same joke feel a bit funnier if all the organs were placed anatomically?
