A Wild Bear Sunset City by jun21 is my favorite Threadless print this week. I love the way it shows two opposite landscapes at the same time, with a vibrant, wild landscape filling the crisp silhouettes of a city skyline. The look of nature in this piece is rugged and colorful, with trees painted with fire-y autumn color, mountains swept with dramatic highlights, and a sky that eases in the sunset with a gradient of ebbing stripes. You can almost hear the wind rustling leaves and smell the morning dew. In contrast, the skyline is almost impossibly prim- the buildings sit directly next to each other, cutting straight channels through the art, and unlike a real city, here all the structures are about the same width and height, with tower styles in a blocky structure that compliments each other. They end in precise drips, the only nod to anything organic, as they form a rough umbrella over the bear. And for his part, the bear isn’t entirely a part of either world- he’s silhouetted like the city, but his contours have the roughness of nature.
