Morning Walk by makart is my favorite Threadless print this week. It uses a style, boldly colored geometric shapes to represent nature, that is common and often seen paired with one or more bear silhouettes. But while most pieces in that genre lean heavily on triangle mountains, it feels refreshing to see this landscape of circular trees. Even better, the layering of shapes creates new colors, like light shining through layers of colored glass. The circles aren’t just plain shapes, either- each contains diverging branches, a loose, natural arrangement that keeps the circles from feeling too mechanical. While I think the design is largely very successful, though, I also see some room for improvement. The repetition of elements (the fact that each branch pattern and bear silhouette is identical) detracts rather than adding interest. Even just some minor alterations in those areas could give the scene a lot more life and energy.
