Neko Sushi by kooky love is my favorite Threadless print this week. What I love about it is the way it takes its ridiculous concept absolutely seriously. A cat samurai slicing through a huge fish to make perfect little sushi rolls? Silly and funny. But it’s been given the amount of care and attention you’d expect to see from fine art, not humorous cartoons. Each scale and fold of fin is exquisitely illustrated, with shiny highlights and realistic flow and shape. Patters flood the cat’s elaborate outfit, positioned around his shape to give dimension. Even the faces are full of drama, with a sharp, almost cruel, determination in the cat’s eyes and helpless shock washing over the face of the fish. Excellent work, with a lot of artistic skill on display.
