Threadless’s Old Lullaby

Old Lullaby by alfbocreative is my favorite Threadless print this week. It’s an interesting arrangement of elements, so eclectically chosen that they almost feel collaged. But there’s a soft, loose style to the drawing that unites all its parts, helping them to combine into an attractively surreal narrative. The portion that first captured my attention is the brightly colored coils, which feel as though cribbed from 60s psychedelia or the geometric flourishes of art nouveau. It’s a great way of representing music’s creativity and excitement. From there, the story unfurls with appealing strangeness- a bird sings from within a phonograph, the crank is turned by a disembodied winged hand, and even the musician himself seems to unravel into a collection of botanical doodles. There’s a lot to like, and a lot to discover!
